The new Zone 4: Teens, Tech, Entertainment area on the fourth floor of the Main Library in Charleston will open to the public at 9 a.m. on Dec. 21.
Formerly the AV Department and Teen Zone, the newly renovated Zone 4 area will have DVDs, CDs, Playaways, Audiobooks, Teen Fiction and Teen Graphic novels for checkout by patrons.
There will also be an expanded Teen area with additional seating, study areas, computers and a large flat screen TV. Public computers that were located in the second floor Technology Center will be moved to Zone 4 as well.
The temporary AV department on the second floor will close at 4:40 p.m. this Sunday so staff can move materials to Zone 4. During the week that the department will be closed, patrons may place holds on DVDs, CDs, Playaways, Audiobooks, Teen Fiction and Teen Graphic Novels either online or by phone and pick up their materials at the first floor service desk or ask that they be sent to the drive-up window.
This project was funded by state grants and foundation funds and most of the work was completed by KCPL facilities staff.
