Marmet incumbent Mayor David Fontalbert narrowly defeated Jay Snodgrass in the town's election by a margin of four votes, according to unofficial election results Tuesday night.
Fontalbert topped Snodgrass, a real estate agent and paramedic, with 247 votes to Snodgrass' 243. He also bested former town streets commissioner James "Jim" Halstead Jr., who had 36 votes, and former town council member Robert "Bobby" Wells, who secured 19 votes.
Votes will be canvassed Monday.
Assuming the official result remains the same, Fontalbert said his focus as mayor will be on economic development and public safety.
"We want to improve our tax base, so we have money to improve Marmet," Fontalbert said. "I think we're making some strides with that now."
Fontalbert, Wells and Snodgrass all vied to fill the position last year, an unexpired term, following former mayor Bill Pauley being ousted because of ethics violations in a previous election. The council chose Fontalbert, a former town recorder.
The five town council seats went to: Johnny Walker (261 votes), Bobby Thompson (217 votes), Michael McGhee (212 votes), Bill Tardy (196 votes) and Teresa Long (178 votes).
Shannon Snodgrass ran unopposed as recorder and won with 368 votes.
Clendenin voters chose Shana Trippett Clendenin to lead the town's continued recovery from the deadly 2016 floods, ousting incumbent Mayor Gary Bledsoe.
Trippett Clendenin's 139 votes topped Bledsoe's 94 votes, according to unofficial election results Tuesday night. Bledsoe was looking to win his third term as mayor. A 31-year-old paralegal, Trippett Clendenin moved to Clendenin three years ago from Wirt County.
Trippett Clendenin was not immediately available for comment. In a previous interview, she said her No. 1 priority is flood recovery and bringing more business to the area. She added that she wants to see Smith's Foodfair grocery store reopen.
"The flood had a big impact on everyone here," she said. "So I just feel like now is the time for progress and change, not only rebuilding, but making it better."
The five seats for Clendenin Town Council went to: Scott Bird (164 votes); Dave Knight (159 votes); Erica Kearns (169 votes); incumbent B. Michael Stout (106 votes) and incumbent John Shelton Jr. (97 votes).
Amanda Amburgey ran unopposed as recorder and won with 172 votes.
