Charleston, particularly the Bridge Road area of South Hills, has been hit in recent days with a rash of car break-ins, according to police.
Lt. Steve Cooper, Charleston police chief of detectives, said in recent days there has been a uptick in people breaking into vehicles and stealing Christmas gifts, cash and electronic devices.
"They're going around looking in vehicles to see if there's anything visible and if there is, they're going through the car," he said. "They're even going so far as to pry open doors and trunks, and with it being Christmas, their odds were better of finding valuables in a vehicle."
Cooper also said about 20 car break-ins were reported on Christmas Eve in Loudendale.
