A Kanawha County man was sentenced Monday to spend up to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting two of his young family members.

Estil Leo Barnett Jr., 35, of Mammoth, pleaded guilty in August to two counts of first-degree sexual assault, according to a news release from Kanawha Prosecuting Attorney Charles Miller's office. Barnett was sentenced to spend between one and five years in prison for each count of assault. Kanawha Circuit Judge Tod Kaufman ordered the sentences to run consecutively, one after the other.

Earlier this year, Barnett admitted that in 2014, he touched the juveniles - an 11-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy - in a sexually explicit manner.

A West Virginia State Police trooper was notified last year about allegations of abuse, according to a criminal complaint filed against Barnett. Employees with the Children's Advocacy Center of CAMC Women and Children's Hospital interviewed the children, who said Barnett had assaulted them on multiple occasions, court documents state.

The judge on Monday also ordered that, following his release from prison, Barnett be supervised for 15 years.
