With the deadline for discounted first-half-of-the-year tax collections approaching on Thursday, city officials will close one lane of Virginia Street East to allow taxpayers to park free.
The right lane of Virginia Street in front of the Kanawha County Courthouse will be closed and available for short-term parking for taxpayers from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, a news release said. The street will be closed only between Goshorn and Court Streets, with a deputy sheriff monitoring parking.
Last year, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office closed the same streets to cope with an increased volume of taxpayers visiting the office, and will repeat it this week to aid parking, the release said.
The Tax Division's courthouse office is located at 409 Virginia St. E., just inside the courthouse entrance on the right.
