Saint Francis Hospital will likely convert its emergency room into an urgent care center, Thomas Health System officials announced Tuesday.
The hospital system has not yet made a final decision on the transition, but one will likely be made later this week, according to a press release.
"Thomas Health System has seen a growing trend where patients are searching for convenient, accessible and affordable care," the release states. "Thomas Health System believes that providing the community with a center to treat non-emergent health issues, including lab work, health screenings, flu shots, minor illnesses and injuries, addresses these challenges."
Thomas Health System is working closely with the West Virginia Health Care Authority, Kanawha County Ambulance Authority and employees on the potential transition.
