A burglary suspect who was illegally carrying a firearm threatened to shoot a deputy with it, according to police.
Troy Michael Allen, 20, of Belle, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Detective Sean Snuffer and Deputy N.L. Brill with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office went to the Witcher Creek Road area of Belle on Wednesday after receiving a tip that Allen was burglarizing homes in the area, the complaint stated. Detectives wrote that they learned from interviews that Allen was armed with a stolen revolver during a burglary in the area.
Allen was found allegedly hiding by a creek bank.
During a scuffle with the officer, Allen allegedly attempted to pull a gun on Brill and threatened to kill him, Chief Deputy Mike Rutherford said.
Allen is being held at the South Central Regional Jail on $5,000 bail.
Rutherford said Allen would face an additional charge of burglary, but that charge had not been filed as of Thursday afternoon.
