Nitro City Council moved forward with a Wall of Fame Monument project at its City Council meeting Tuesday night.
Council members voted to move forward the project proposed and funded by private citizen Greg Tidd.
The monument will highlight famous Nitronians, said Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt.
So far, three people have been nominated for the honor, Casebolt said.
"He has set a criteria where [nominees] have to be recognized as a professional and national recognized," Casebolt said.
Baseball player Lou Burdett, country singer Kathy Mattea and little league umpire Dave Burdette has been nominated to the memorial.
Council members will check out Tidd's proposed site in the grassy area in front of the parking lot of H&R Block. Council will determine a location and vote on the project next meeting.
"It's a great idea," Casebolt said. "It's just determining a location."
