Charleston police on Wednesday arrested a man they say broke into John Adams Middle School last fall and is responsible for several South Hills break-ins.

Police found Brandon Lee Lilly, 30, trying to hide from authorities in the attic of his mother's Parkwood Drive home early Wednesday afternoon, said Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department.

Lilly is accused of breaking into the school on Oct. 18 and stealing electronics, according to a criminal complaint.

He's also accused of using stolen debit cards and checks related to the break-ins.

Lilly was arraigned Wednesday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court on charges of breaking and entering, three counts of forgery, four counts of uttering and three counts of fraud with an access device.

Cooper said Lilly likely will face more charges.

"We've got some car break-ins coming his way and we have more fingerprint evidence and video surveillance evidence," Cooper said.

Police have had warrants for Lilly for several months, Cooper said. Officers received a tip Wednesday that he may be in his mother's house, Cooper said.

Cooper said police previously had searched the house where he was found and that they also had some indication Lilly was living in Huntington.

"We've been looking for Mr. Lilly for quite some time and he created a lot of havoc in the South Hills area this past fall," Cooper said.

Kanawha Magistrate Mike Sisson set bond at $25,000 cash and scheduled a preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19. Sisson stipulated that if Lilly makes bond, he will be held on home confinement. Lilly is being held at South Central Regional Jail.
