A man in Rand allegedly cut his father for taking too long to make a sandwich on Monday.

Mark Anthony Stevens, 37, became angry as the father made a sandwich for his wife at their home on Church Drive, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

The father and son began to argue after Stevens repeatedly asked when the sandwich would be done, according to the complaint.

Stevens went to his bedroom but soon emerged with blood on his arms, the complaint states. The father believes Stevens cut himself.

According to the complaint, they argued once more before Stevens armed himself with a knife and then slashed his father's stomach, leaving a 5-inch laceration.

Kanawha sheriff's deputies found Stevens a half-mile away on Bluefield Avenue. He may have thrown the knife into a nearby ditch, the complaint states, but deputies never recovered it.

Deputies arrested Stevens on charges of malicious assault and domestic violence. Both men received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Stevens remained at South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bail on Tuesday morning.
