Charleston authorities pulled a body from the Elk River under the Lee Street Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
The body was recovered after a fisherman reported an object floating in the river, a Kanawha Coumty Metro 911 dispatcher said.
Police and firefighters soon lined a corner of the bridge, their eyes fixed on the shoreline.
A boat from the Charleston Fire Department idled in between pillars and brush, where a team soon found the body.
The person's identity was not immediately known.
