A Kanawha County man allegedly tried to escape from police in a stolen truck full of stolen goods shortly after midnight Wednesday.
Adam Justin Foster, of Dry Branch, loaded the truck with equipment from a construction site in Charleston, said State Police Sgt. B.K. Hammontree.
Employees were working on the Interstate 64 bridge near Greenbrier Street, and state troopers were parked nearby.
At about 1:30 a.m., a worker spotted Foster loading construction equipment into the truck, Hammontree said. The employee alerted a trooper.
"A short pursuit - very short pursuit - happened before the subject ran out of gas," Hammontree said.
The truck stopped on a lawn at the Capitol Complex, near the Governor's Mansion. Troopers arrested Foster after a short struggle. Charleston police and Kanawha sheriff's deputies then arrived to help, Hammontree said.
"I know the eastern end of the county is familiar with him," the trooper said. "He's got quite a lengthy criminal history."
Authorities arrested Foster on seven charges related to fleeing, driving revoked for DUI, assaulting an officer and possessing stolen property.
He remained at South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bail on Wednesday morning.
