A woman was struck and killed while walking on U.S. 60 near Witcher Creek in Belle early Saturday, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Police say the woman was wearing dark clothes and walking in the traffic lanes when she was struck by an oncoming car at around 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning. The driver of the car did not see the woman in time to swerve around her, according to the release.
The driver called 911 and remained on the scene until police arrived, police say. Law enforcement found the woman dead at the scene upon their arrival.
The name of the driver and the woman have not been released.
The sheriff's department is investigating. No charges have been filed against the driver.
Once the investigation is done, the findings will be turned over to the Kanawha County prosecuting attorney's office for review, according to the release.
