A Kanawha County man who was found with hundreds of pieces of stolen mail in 2015 was sentenced Wednesday to six months in federal prison.

Jason Lee Spradling, 34, of Pinch was ordered to pay $3,796.91 in restitution to victims and complete a Prestera rehabilitation program once he is released from custody.

Spradling has been incarcerated since March 23.

He pleaded guilty in April to stealing a box of checks and other mail from the Elkview area. He faced a possible sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, according to his plea agreement.

Around 67 people were victims of Spradling's theft. One victim addressed the court about the impact of his actions on her wellbeing.

"I want Mr. Spradling to know he took my safety and security away after my husband's death," said Bonnie Rogers.

Rogers moved from her home after being stolen from, claiming it wasn't safe.

"You've created havoc for so many people," said U.S. District Judge John Copenhaver, citing the "damage, inconvenience and annoyance" Spradling has caused.

Spradling said his actions were caused by addiction and apologized to the court and Rogers in a statement.
