Charleston Main Streets unanimously elected three new members at its Board of Directors meeting Tuesday.

The new additions are Rob Aliff, a lawyer at Jackson Kelly; Becky Ceperley, the president and CEO of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation; Jennifer Sayre, the Kanawha County manager.

Mary Jean Davis, a Charleston City Council member, who was already on the board, was appointed secretary.

Following the approval of the new members, the board discussed ongoing business.

On the East End, members are working on HallowEast, which will take place today through Saturday.

The festivities will feature a series of events, starting with a life-size rendition of the board game Clue today and concluding with the HallowEast Costume Pub Crawl on Saturday night.

West Side Main Street reported good news from the Oct. 17 OktoberWest. The event earned $30,000, an increase from last year.

The board was updated on new developments on vacant properties in the city.

In the East End, 1573 Washington St. E. and the next-door building that used to house the Capitol Station Post Office have been sold. The board cannot publicly release the tenants yet, but they expect that the two buildings will add about 100 people to the foot traffic on the street.

Also on the East End, the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority has two or three parties expressing interest in the property on 1601 Washington St. E.

On the West Side, CURA owns 1601-1607 Washington St. and has cleaned out the building and gotten rid of asbestos to get it ready for redevelopment.

Three shootings in the past year have raised some concerns on the West Side on the block near Gino's and Tudor's.

"The fear is that the crime is moving towards the business district and we feel there needs to be a commitment to stopping it there," said Charleston Main Streets President Adam Krason. "But the city was very responsive and I'm anxious to see what kind of results we will see."
