South Charleston City Council approved a proclamation brought by Mayor Frank Mullens to proclaim the annual Christian Heritage week.

City Clerk Margie Spence read the proclamation and in doing so stated that local churches and citizens are encouraged to participate in the weeks' activities "each in their own way."

The motion passed by unanimous voice vote and the annual Christian Heritage week is set for Nov. 20 through Nov. 26.

South Charleston will have its annual Christmas Parade at noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Oakes Field in South Charleston.

Ward 7 Councilman Jamie Sibold brought forth a bid for the South Charleston Fire Department in the amount of $40,260.04 from Mid Atlantic Rescue Systems Incorporated for new extraction equipment. It was approved by a unanimous roll call voice vote.

Council and city leaders also discussed the success of the "Trunk or Treat" event for Halloween.

Mullens commented that his office has received calls about how much the community enjoyed the event.

Council members said the event hosted at least 200 cars.

The city plans to continue the event annually.

All council members were present for Thursday's meeting.

Council's next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 on the second floor of City Hall, D Street.
