Fifth Quarter restaurant in Charleston was demolished Wednesday to make room for a hotel to be built on the site.

The property, located at the corner of Quarrier and Clendenin streets, is owned by the Beni Kedem Shriners, which leased the property to the restaurant up until it closed in June.

Tom Black, recorder for the local Shriners group, said there are three different hotel developers currently vying for the property.

Black said that whatever brand is decided on, it will be a "top of the line hotel." The new hotel would bring in about 130 permanent jobs, Black said.

Black said they hope to break ground on a hotel in March or April. He doesn't know whether the Shriners will sell the property to a developer or establish a lease agreement.
