St. Albans welcomed a new city councilman Monday night.
City Council voted to fill its vacant seat in Ward 6 after hearing presentations from residents Dale Withrow and Bill Griffith.
Dale Withrow won the vote 7-3 and was sworn into council Monday by Mayor Dick Callaway. Withrow fills the seat left vacant following the July death of Councilwoman Loretta Griffith.
"I love this city," Withrow said. "I like to be involved and I like to proactive about things that go on and I want to be involved in the future of the city."
In other business, Council passed the second reading of an ordinance Monday to lease equipment from Country Roads Leasing by unanimous voice vote.
Council also voted by anonymous voice vote to pay current invoices in the amount of $7,558.22.
Council voted to table the first reading of two ordinances because they weren't ready to be presented. The ordinances will be re-written and brought before council as soon as possible, said Councilman Jason Philabaun of Ward 2.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent Kevin Pennington announced the Fall Festival at the St. Albans City Park from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Oct. 15 and the tailgate party 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Hayes Middle School.
All members of council were present except Councilman-At-Large John Boles, who has been absent because of a prolonged illness.
Council's next meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 on the second floor of the municipal building at 51 Sixth Ave.
