Thursday was a good day to be a cat at the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association shelter on Greenbrier Street. Chloe Ann Walker-Basham (above) picked out her new pet, Sassy, with the help of her grandmother, Jody Perry.
At right, Walker-Basham has to jump to get a good look at some of the kitten options. The 4-year-old Hurricane resident was among those who picked a pet during the weeklong "Empty the Shelter" event, during which adoption fees for shelter pets are waived.
The event continues at the shelter Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Some adoptable pets will also be at the Adams Hallmark store at Dudley Farms Plaza from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday; at PetSmart at the Shops at Trace Fork from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday; and at Petco at Southridge Centre from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
