Up to 1,500 students in Kanawha County's Head Start programs could benefit from new funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources.
Sens. Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito announced in a Wednesday news release that nearly $3 million in federal funds will benefit 60 school- and community-based Head Start classrooms in the county
"In West Virginia, our commitments reflect our values, and we value our children above all else," Manchin said. "This funding will ensure the Kanawha County Board of Education can continue providing critical health, nutrition, education and social services to the children and families they serve. Head Start programs are an investment in the next generation of West Virginians and our children deserve these educational opportunities."
"Young West Virginians need a strong foundation to lead successful lives," Capito said. "This funding will help us accomplish this goal in Kanawha County by providing our next generation of students with better health and educational services that enrich their lives."
