The Governor's Highway Safety Program has provided local law enforcement agencies with funding for high-visibility patrols in areas where most crashes occur on the interstate highways.
Mike Rutherford, chief deputy of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, announced the additional patrols in a news release Tuesday.
This week, additional deputies began patrolling Interstate 64 between Dunbar and Institute, and Interstate 77 north and south of the Edens Fork exit, he said.
"We are hopeful these patrols will result in fewer speeders, more conscientious driving, and thus fewer crashes," Rutherford said. "We encourage all drivers to devote their attention to driving instead of being distracted, and follow the law."
