Kanawha County Metro 911 has announced the winner of this year's Telecommunicator of the Year.
The recipient, Megan Hustead, was selected for excelling at her position, according to a news release from Metro 911 agency coordinator Brooke Hylbert. Hustead has worked for Metro 911 for 16 months.
"Megan is a knowledgeable, dedicated professional that leads by example and inspires others to do their best," said Sheriff John Rutherford, who serves as executive director of the Metro Emergency Operations Center.
Metro 911 announces the telecommunicator of the year during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
This week is meant to honor dispatchers for their often life-saving work. In 2015, Metro 911 answered over half a million calls for service on emergency and non-emergency lines and dispatched nearly 225,000 calls for service, according to the release.
On Tuesday, the Kanawha County Commission will sign a proclamation to officially recognize this week in Kanawha County.
