A Kanawha County grand jury this week returned indictments against 10 people on murder charges in six separate slayings.
Tremaine Jackson, 23, of Charleston, is charged with murder in the December shooting death of Bryan Rogers, 29, of the Ripley area.
Jackson told police that Rogers had stolen about $3,000 worth of heroin from him. He allegedly confronted Rogers in an alley near the intersection of Rebecca Street and 7th Avenue on Charleston's West Side.
Jackson allegedly drew a .380-caliber handgun and shot Rogers one time in the stomach. He later died at a hospital.
Antonio Carnell Williams II, 24, of Morgantown, is charged with murder in a shooting on New Year's Day in Charleston.
Shannon Cade, 20, was shot while sitting at a kitchen table at a house in the 800 block of Mathews Avenue. He died the next day at a hospital.
A 14-year-old girl also was shot in the house, but sustained only minor wounds, police previously said. Williams also is charged with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment.
Sean Paul Burdette, 23, of Charleston, is charged with accessory after the fact. He is alleged to have driven the get-away vehicle after the shootings.
Four people are charged with first-degree robbery and murder after a man died in a fall from a ninth-floor window at Charleston's Vista View Apartments during an alleged robbery last September.
Bryson "B" Ward, of Detroit, was found dead outside 1311 Renaissance Circle. There were signs of a struggle in the apartment from which he fell.
Those charged with his robbery and death include: Martez Griffin, 24, of Charleston; Brian Parks, 27, of Charleston; Tyler Ferrebee, 23, of Dunbar; and Lisa Ferrebee, 46, of Charleston.
Darius Lavante Coles, 18, of Charleston, is charged with murder in the shooting death of 24-year-old Dominic Clark last October.
Coles allegedly shot Clark in the 600 block of Ohio Avenue. Clark was shot several times in the back and chest.
The two men had gotten into an argument the week before the shooting, according to police.
Scott Johnson Meador, 39, is charged with first-degree murder in the December death of Glen Alfred Carpenter Jr., 50, at a Jefferson strip club.
Meador was at the Foxy Lady club, which was closed at the time, installing a security system. Carpenter also was working at the club at 6907 MacCorkle Ave., his family said.
Prosecutors have said Carpenter was found with 11 stab wounds to his back and additional stab wounds to his face. He also was shot in the head.
Meador has claimed he acted in self defense.
Two men were indicted on murder charges in the killing of an 18-year-old man outside of Artie's Kickback Lounge last December.
Marlon Rush, 38, of Charleston, and Christopher Landric Burton, 28, of Huntington, are charged in the death of J'Shaad "Double O" Jones, of Charleston.
Jones was shot in the early morning hours of Dec. 31 near the bar on Charleston's West Side. He collapsed in a field behind the bar after the shooting and was pronounced dead at Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital.
