The East End Bazaar's fourth season will soon kick off with a new look and format.
Starting May 14, the open-air artisans market will operate at its location on the corner of Ruffner Avenue and Washington Street East on the second and third Saturdays of each month through September, according to a press release from Charleston Main Streets.
The market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Bazaar, organized through Charleston Main Streets' East End Main Street program, was held every weekend in past years.
This season, each Saturday will feature a different arts-based theme, with the first on May 14 focusing on upcycling and refurbishing old items.
"We wanted to focus more on the overall experience people were getting when they came to the Bazaar. Having it just two times a month will allow us to plan more things out, do more demonstrations for people and focus on a specific art each weekend," said Adam Stollings, program manager for the East End Bazaar.
Boasting a new logo and tagline, "Experience the arts of urban Appalachia," each Saturday's theme will include demonstrations by vendors who specialize in certain arts.
Stollings said market organizers received feedback from both community members and vendors who wanted to see more themed days in hopes that it would draw more customers to the bazaar and better highlight the vendors.
The Bazaar also will host two special events in October.
On Oct.8, it will host an event as part of West Virginia Craft Week with the Tamarack Foundation; on Oct. 22, it will cap the end of the open-air season with the Hops & Heat Chili Cookoff and Craft Beer Fest.
