After a wheelchair was found at the top of a hill near the Kanawha River in Chesapeake, emergency crews have called a dive team in case the person who was using the wheelchair fell in the river.

A Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher said the wheelchair was found in the area of 13530 Nancy Ave. in Chesapeake at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. Callers reported what looked to be slide marks on the hill leading to the water.

Chesapeake and Belle fire departments, as well as medics, responded.

Belle's dive team was en route at about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

C.W. Sigman, Kanawha County Deputy Emergency Manager, said no one saw a person go in the water, but dive teams from different agencies would work together to investigate.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Office dive team will begin searching at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sigman said.

He said thankfully the water is not high or swift, but that the dive teams are facing bad conditions with the cold temperature of the water.
