The Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority has relocated its temporary KRT bus stop while repairs are made to Laidley Street near the Transit Mall.

Starting Monday, KRT's main downtown bus stops will be in the 100 Block of Laidley Street, one block south of the Transit Mall, and in the metered parking lane in the 500 block of Quarrier Street, according to a statement from KRT. The City of Charleston is working with KRT to make the necessary changes.

The change comes after a broken water line on Laidley Street near Slack Plaza compromised the road's substructure. After repairing the leak, West Virginia American Water contracted with Oval Construction to repair the road. The bus stops were temporarily moved to the parallel block of Summers Street, and will continue there until Sunday.

By Monday, the new locations will be used as bus stops until repairs are complete. Officials say the work may take up to three weeks.

In the meantime, the city will put "No Parking" bags on meters on the aforementioned blocks, although both will remain open to traffic during the relocation.
