A malfunctioning air conditioning system has forced the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department to move some of its operations until the problem can be fixed.
Clinic services will be offered at the KCHD satellite office at 3101 MacCorkle Ave. in Charleston. The clinic is located across the street from Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital. Other services, such as epidemiological/threat preparedness services and environmental health services, will continue to be provided, although employees may be temporarily transferred to other locations.
"The 15-year-old chiller that provides air conditioning to our Lee Street offices was scheduled to be replaced," said Dr. Michael Brumage, KCHD executive director and health officer. "It stopped working Sunday, and our staff has since instituted our continuity of services plan. We'll be continually evaluating the most efficient way to provide services to our clients."
Brumage could not estimate how long repairs would take.
