The Esquires are among the acts slated for the centennial edition of Nitro's annual Boomtown Days festival next month.

The rhythm-and-blues band, which has been playing music since 1964, will be the headline act for Saturday evening, Sept. 9, according to a news release from the city.

The festival will offer a wide range of music, from bluegrass to country to rock, the release said.

Earlier Saturday, Dread Pirate Roberts, a "jazzgrass" band, will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. Stephanie Stacy & the Aftermath will perform country music from 3 to 5 p.m. Fireworks will be after the Esquires.

"We are excited to have scheduled top-notch West Virginia performers who will make this festival extra special as we celebrate 100 years since Nitro's founding," Mayor Dave Casebolt said in the release. "We think the wide range of musical genres will offer something for everyone."

On Friday Sept. 8, Jim and Valerie Gabeheart will perform bluegrass music.

All performances will be at the Living Memorial Park stage at 21st Street and Second Avenue.
