A back-to-school pool party will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cross Lanes Recreational Association's Pool, 5447 Big Tyler Rd., Cross Lanes. All are welcome to swim and listen to live music by DJ GT. The pool party is a fundraiser for the Cross Lanes Branch Library's annual fund drive. Admission is $5. Proceeds go toward programming and improving resources for the Cross Lanes Branch Library. In case of rain, the pool party will be postponed until 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 24. Laura Moul will be teaching a Beginning Digital Photography Class from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, 12, and 19 in the commons building at the Putnam County Wave Pool Park in Hurricane. The emphasis is on helping students learn to use all features of their digital cameras (point and shoot) or SLR cameras. Pre-registration is required.
