A man is dead after being hit by a truck on Charleston's West Side Friday afternoon, a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher said.

The incident was reported around 2:45 p.m. at 7th Avenue and Rebecca Street beside Littlepage Terrace, the dispatcher said.

The victim, identified as Harley David Meadows, 24, of Charleston, was found lying in the road, according to a news release from the police department. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Nearly 10 police officers surrounded a white tarp just outside the housing complex.

Police would not say who hit the pedestrian, but did say the driver remained at the scene and spoke to officers.

A truck from New River Electrical Corporation was parked down the road. It sat near West Side Church of the Nazarene, just inside the perimeter made by investigators.

Several officers marked the trucks location with orange spray paint. A company employee declined to comment.

Police said no charges had been filed as of Friday evening, but that the investigation was ongoing.
