The Kmart store at Crossings Mall in Elkview will reopen early next month, a company spokesman said Wednesday. The store is planning to reopen the first weekend of September and will have a grand reopening event the following weekend, spokesman Chris Brathwaite said in an email.
The store, along with the rest of businesses at the shopping center, had been closed for more than a year after the culvert bridge that was its only public access point washed out during the June 2016 flood. A new bridge was finished late last month.
Brathwaite said the company has asked every full-time associate who previously worked for the store to reapply for work. They've reached out to as many part-time associates as possible to gauge their availability, he said.
The store also is looking to hire new associates for that location. Anyone interested can apply online at jobs.kmart.com.
