A Charleston man was charged Tuesday with domestic battery and fleeing on foot from police officers after allegedly punching his father in the face several times.
Zachary Steele, 21, allegedly committed the assault and fled in his parents' vehicle, telling his father he could find it in pieces on Dry Branch Drive, according to a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities found the vehicle near Gap View Drive and found Steele on Campbell's Creek near U.S. 60. He fled several times on foot before taking a knife and holding it to his neck, deputies said. He threatened to harm both himself and a police K9 unit, if it were used to apprehend him.
Deputies then fired a bean-bag round at Steele from a shotgun and apprehended him.
He is being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash-only bail.
