The Greater Sissonville Development Council will next meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sissonville Library. Featured will be Brian Farkas of the WV Conservation Agency and Sen. Ed Gaunch addressing a Potential Flood Retardation Structure and possible recreational opportunities in our area. Delegate Ron Walters will provide a legislative update.

The Charleston Area Alliance is hosting a series of Lunch and Learn workshops about the recently adopted West Virginia Medical Cannabis Act. Matt Simon, New England political director for the Marijuana Policy Project, will present a Lunch and Learn at noon on Wednesday at the Alliance about the state's medical cannabis law, how it compares to legislation in other states and the potential impacts to the business community. Richard M. Wallace, labor attorney and shareholder at Littler Mendelson, will present the second Lunch and Learn on medical marijuana use and employee drug testing at noon on July 12 at the Alliance. Ryan White and Mark Matkovich, attorneys at White Law Offices, will present the third Lunch and Learn on starting a medical marijuana business at noon on Aug. 23 at the Alliance. Lunch and Learn registration is $15 for Alliance members and $20 for future Alliance members and includes a boxed lunch. Seating is limited. The Kanawha Valley Astronomical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Hansford Senior Center in St. Albans. The monthly program will be "Observing the Planets with a Telescope." They also will have updates on our two West Virginia star parties, Star Quest at Green Bank Radio Observatory from July 19-22 and Astronomy Weekend at Blackwater Falls State Park from September 14-16. Refreshments will be served.
