Charleston attorney and former state delegate Rusty Webb has resigned from Charleston City Council less than four months after being appointed.
Webb, a local personal injury and divorce attorney, stepped down on Tuesday. He was a representative for the city's 17th Ward, which encompasses most of Kanawha City.
Webb was sworn in to council in January to replace former councilman John Miller, who resigned earlier that month.
In his resignation letter to Mayor Danny Jones, Webb said his tenure "although brief, has been very rewarding."
Webb's letter didn't provide a reason for his resignation, and he couldn't be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
Jones said he will announce a nomination for Webb's replacement Friday.
The appointee would finish Webb's term, which ends following the next city election in November 2018.
Webb also is a member of the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority board.
He served four terms in the state House of Delegates, then lost a race for state Senate to Dan Foster in 2004.
