Deputies arrested a South Charleston man after he allegedly rammed into a woman's car - occupied by two children - several times on Interstate 64 in Dunbar on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Hayes Jr., 31, was angry his girlfriend took his phone after an argument at Charleston Town Center, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Hayes then followed her on the interstate and rammed into her car, threatening the safety of two children under the age of 4, the complaint states.

Authorities responded shortly before 5 p.m. and reportedly found Hayes screaming at his girlfriend in the area near Goff Crossing Drive.

Deputies arrested Hayes on two counts of child neglect and one count of attempted malicious assault, along with three counts of embezzlement in connection with a past investigation.

As an employee at a Sprint store in the town center, he allegedly stole more than $850 in September, according to a criminal complaint.

Hayes remained at South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bail Wednesday morning.
