The son of Charleston Mayor Danny Jones will have another chance to attend rehab, a Kanawha County judge said Wednesday.
Zachary Jones, 27, who previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor fraud charge, was arrested last month after allegedly violating probation.
Jones was sentenced by Kanawha Circuit Judge Duke Bloom in April 2015 to spend five years on strict probation. After his arrest on the probation violation charge, Bloom sentenced Jones to spend a year in jail. During a sentencing reconsideration hearing Wednesday, Bloom said Jones could leave South Central Regional Jail to attend a 9- to 12-month program at Recovery Point in Bluefield. The judge suggested Jones become a counselor for others struggling with addiction, if he is successful in the program.
Assistant Kanawha prosecutor Fred Giggenbach didn't object to the additional term in rehab, but noted that Jones has had multiple chances.
Giggenbach and Bloom said they were worried Jones would die from an overdose.
Jones completed a drug treatment program through Recovery Point in Huntington in December 2015. Bloom allowed him to seek treatment at that facility, which he attended for nearly a year.
