Two Charleston residents pleaded guilty to crimes in federal court Tuesday.
Shon Wayne Cobbs, 45, admitted in U.S. District Court to being a felon in possession of a firearm. On Feb. 3, 2013, Cobbs shot a .40-caliber pistol inside his kitchen three times during an argument with a woman, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Carol Casto's office. Kanawha County sheriff's deputies found 17 guns in the residence, according to the release.
Cobbs pleaded guilty to wanton endangerment in Kanawha Circuit Court in August 2013 as a result of the incident, and was sentenced to home confinement, according to the release.
Cobbs was prohibited from having a gun because he was convicted of unlawful wounding, a felony, in Kanawha Circuit Court in 2008. Cobbs broke a woman's arm by twisted it behind her back, according to the release.
He faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 6 by U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.
Also Tuesday, Tara Shepherd, 26, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to distribution of heroin. Shepherd sold heroin on Aug. 26, 2016, at her apartment on Washington Avenue, in Charleston, to a confidential informant working with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team.
She faces up to 20 years in prison at her sentencing, scheduled for June 26 in front of U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver.
