The Nitro City Council announced it was approved for another streetscape grant from the state Division of Highways at its Tuesday night meeting.

The $180,000 grant, one of several streetscape grants the city has received in recent months, will be allocated for maintenance and improvements to the sidewalk on 21st Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue, according to John Young, the city's treasurer.

The council also approved two budget revisions.

One moves $21,800 in general revenue funds from the Nitro Public Library renovation to the Parks and Recreation department.

The other moves $15,912 in Nitro's coal severance funding from the library's renovation to rent for the city council building and senior living programs.

Young said the revisions occurred because the library renovation costs were less than expected.

In April 2016, the council voted to allocate nearly $200,000 from sales tax revenue for the library's renovation, which was completed in October. The project renovated its existing interior, including new flooring, lighting and furniture.
