The Kanawha County Board of Education approved changes to textbook adoption methods Monday.
The changes would allow textbook adoption committees to be smaller when smaller numbers of books are up for adoption.
The school system is reviewing Spanish and French textbooks now.
Missy Ruddle, Kanawha's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, said fewer students are taking other foreign languages throughout the county. She said most students throughout the county are taking Spanish.
Kanawha schools do not require foreign language classes, but students are required to take two years of a foreign language to be admitted to most colleges throughout the country.
The school board also unanimously approved an easement with Appalachian Power in regard to the ballfield at Herbert Hoover High School.
Currently the power for the ballfield runs through the building. Jim Withrow, the school system's general counsel, said the easement would make billing easier for Kanawha schools.
