The second annual Celtic Calling, a celebration of Celtic arts, kicked off Friday evening in Charleston with performances by T.J. King and members of The Charleston Rogues, Bog Standard, Appalachian Celtic Consort and John Doyle at the Copper Pint, on Kanawha Boulevard. A Celtic Cooking Class was held Friday night at Uncork & Create, on Quarrier Street. Mountain Thyme, an all-female band performing Appalachian Celtic music, performed at Taylor Books, on Capitol Street. A Celtic Concert, featuring Father Son and Friends, was planned at the Boulevard Tavern, on Kanawha Boulevard, with the Dunbar Redhead Festival hosting "red head" competitions in the musical breaks.
The events will go on all weekend at various locations around Charleston. Saturday's events include a Kilt 5K Run at 9 a.m. from Power Park to Spring Hill Cemetery and a Baa Baa Blacksheep petting zoo at noon at the Kanawha County Public Library, on Capitol Street.
